چکیده

We study experimentally how wettability impacts fluid–fluid displacement patterns in granular media. We inject a low-viscosity fluid (air) into a thin bed of glass beads initially saturated with a more-viscous fluid (a water/glycerol mixture). Chemical treatment of glass surfaces allows us to control the wetting properties of the medium and modify the contact angle θ from 5 deg (drainage) to 120 deg (imbibition). We demonstrate that wettability exerts a powerful influence on the invasion morphology of unfavorable-mobility displacements: increasing θ stabilizes fluid invasion into the granular pack at all capillary numbers. In particular, we report the striking observation of a stable radial displacement at low capillary numbers, whose origin lies on the cooperative nature of fluid invasion at the pore scale.

Thermal Convection in a (Kuvshiniski-type) Viscoelastic Rotating Fluid in the Presence of Magnetic Field through Porous Medium (TECHNICAL NOTE)

The effect of magnetic field on an incompressible (Kuvshiniski-Type) viscoelastic rotating fluid heated from below in porous medium is considered. For the case of stationary convection, magnetic field and medium permeability have both stabilizing and destabilizing effect on the thermal convection under some conditions whereas rotation has a stabilizing effect on the thermal convection. In the...

Study of Two Phase Fluid Flow in Water Wet Reservoir Rocks by Using X-Ray In situ Saturation Monitoring

Displacement of oil and water in porous media of reservoir rocks is described by relative                      permeability curves, which are important input data for reservoir performance simulation and drive mechanism studies. Many core studies, such as multiphase relative permeability, capillary pressure and saturation exponent determination, depend on the volume fractions of multiphase flui...

Pore-Scale Network Modeling of Three-Phase Flow Based on Thermodynamically Consistent Threshold Capillary Pressures. I. Cusp Formation and Collapse

We present a pore-scale network model of twoand three-phase flow in disordered porous media. The model reads three-dimensional pore networks representing the pore space in different porous materials. It simulates wide range of twoand three-phase pore-scale displacements in porous media with mixed-wet wettability. The networks are composed of pores and throats with circular and angular cross sec...

Experimental Investigation of the Permeability and Inertial Effect on Fluid Flow through Homogeneous Porous Media

The value of the permeability in fluid flow through porous media is important for process investigation. In low Reynolds number, the classic Darcy’s law is suitable for simulation of fluid flow. In this paper, an experimental study for evaluation of preformed fiber permeability has been done. Also, the deviations from the classical Darcy law by experimental and numerical simulation of the N...

Experimental Study of Wettability Alteration to Preferential Gas-Wetting in Porous Media and Its Effects

In a recent theoretical study, Li and Firoozabadi showed that if the wettability of porous media can be altered from preferential liquid-wetting to preferential gas-wetting, then gas well deliverability in gas condensate reservoirs can be increased. In this paper, we present the results that the wettability of porous media may indeed be altered from preferential liquid-wetting to preferential g...
